May 20 - BoSox Club Luncheon Report

The May BoSox Club luncheon continued the tradition of "don't miss" Club events.

Guests included Sox knuckleballer Steven Wright, and from the Texas Rangers, infielder Adam Rosales, announcer Matt Hicks and third base coach Tony Beasley.  John McDonald, member of the Red Sox Championship 2013 team and former broadcaster Mike Dowling, who did an outstanding job as emcee.  Dick Flavin wrapped it all up.

Before the festivities began, we recognized Joanne Bresciani, wife of Dick Bresciani, and announced that the BoSox Club will be establishing a Member of the Year Award in his honor.  We also recognized our military guests from the United States Air Force.

Mike Dowling - retired from WCVB - then took over to interview Sox pitcher Steven Wright.  From Southern California, Wright had many years experience in the minor leagues and developed a strong perseverance.  Learning to control his knuckle ball got him into the big leagues.  And he's thrilled to be playing with the Red Sox and at Fenway Park.

Next, Texas Rangers announcer Matt Hicks interviewed Rangers infielder Adam Rosales, who talked about enjoying his time in Boston, the history, the traditions and Fenway Park.  Hicks then interviewed Texas third base coach Tony Beasley, who talked about his off season work in the family lumberjack business.  Primarily a middle infielder, Beasley spent nine seasons as a player in the minor leagues.  This is his first year with the Rangers.  Thanks to Matt Hicks, who said, very pragmatically, with "I'll end with this, Go Rangers, Go Red Sox."

Dowling then interviewed a member of the RS Championship 2013 Team, John McDonald, who retired last year.  Known for his defensive ability, he posted a career fielding percentage of .974 in over 6,450 innings.  John said it is awesome to be able to look back at his 19-year career of professional baseball with pride.  Thanks to Mike Dowling for a great job as our MC.

Dick Flavin wrapped up a great lunch.
