The June BoSox Club luncheon continued the tradition of "don't miss" Club events.
Guests included Sox high impact rookie sensation, Brock Holt, Legendary Pitcher and 1991 World Series MVP, Jack Morris, Dick Flavin's poetry, Twins broadcaster Dick Bremer, honoring longtime Sox photographer, Jack Maley, WEEI's Rob Bradford, and WCVB's Mike Dowling, who did an outstanding job as emcee.
Before the festivities began, a moment of silence was observed for the passing of former Red Sox manager Don Zimmer and SD Padres Hall of Famer, Tony Gwynn.
On a much happier note, Dick Flavin produced yet another (how does he do it month after month?) funny poem about all of us fans who Second Guess players, umpires, coaches and management. Jack Morris was then introduced by Twins longtime broadcaster, Dick Bremer, who made the very convincing case for Morris being long overdue for Hall of Fame induction. His career highlights - mostly with the Tigers - included 258 wins, four world series appearances including a 10 inning complete game 1-0 win and MVP. Jack now joins Bremer and Bert Blyleven on Twins announcing duties.
Mike Dowling - recently retired from WCVB - smoothly took over the interviewing duties and honored Jack Maley's decades long career as Red Sox photographer and fixture at our luncheons. WEEI/WEEI.com's Rob Bradford was up next and spoke about what a perfect storm 2013 season was with everything falling the Sox way. He talked of some prospects who might make a difference before the season is over.
Brock Holt was interviewed next. A product of Texas who attended Rice University, the very personable and well-spoken Holt modesty talked of what an honor it is every day to put on the Red Sox uniform. So far, Brock has added lots of clutch hitting and has literally every position (and played them well!) except Pitcher and catcher. He admitted the game would "have to be pretty ugly" for him to try that. Thanks to Mike Dowling for a great job as our MC.
Hope you were there, and will be with us at Fenway Park on July 8th which promises to be another memorable luncheon. It's almost a sellout; so go online to www.bosoxclub.org or call Audrey at 781-449-8271 to request your tickets for luncheon and ballpark tour.
Happy 4th everyone.
