Today's lunch recognized this year's DiMaggio Scholarship recipient, Tom Hudon. We also welcomed members of the Red Sox Foundation and members of the BoSox Club campership progam. Today's honored military guests are from the US Army, assigned to the Natick Soldiers Systems Center in Natick, MA. This year's DiMaggio Scholarship recipient, Tom Hudon, is a NH native from Merrimack High School, entering his senior year at St. Anslem College. He was recognized along with Peter DiMaggio, son of Dom DiMaggio. Joe Castiglione interviewed Dwight Evans, Red Sox Hall of Famer who won 8 Golden Gloves and hit more home runs in the 1980s than anybody. Evans hit the first home run Joe ever called in the major leagues; though he was the voice for the Cleveland Indians at the time. Travis Shaw was next up. The first player in 28 years to have 5 home runs for the Red Sox in his first 21 games, Shaw has had a great starts to his big league career. His dad, Jeff Shaw played 12 years in the majors and pitched in the same rotation as John Farrell as a starter with Cleveland in early 1990's. He then went on to Cincinnati and led the national league in saves. Our great friend, Dick Flavin closed our lunch with a beautiful poem about Dom DiMaggio. See you all at our next lunch in September!
